This
is hilarious - it's five years too late, but even Kiwis will start
taking action eventually... Book store owners are having to re-stack the
Ardern stand a couple of times a day as shoppers turn the book and
replace it with other titles like, "Broken Country".
"With her international self-promoting tour underway in the Northern Hemisphere, and Jacinda Ardern basking in the glory of her empathetic, caring book..... and herself, retailers back in New Zealand, are being kept busy by customers turning the book on its stand.
A bookstore owner in the South Island said she's having to re-stack the Ardern stand a couple of times a day as shoppers turn the book and replace it with other titles like, 'A Broken Country'.
Several customers have complained, with one saying he found it, 'disgusting that she was making money off people she had made homeless and poor.' Another woman told a shop assistant that they shouldn't stock a book that was so 'untruthful and false.'
A paper plus owner in the North Island has reputedly taken the book out of the front of the store and is keeping it 'out back'. Customers who visit the store must ask to view it.
The book, like the woman, is polarising.
Many reviews of the book have stated that it covers very little of what Ardern did politically or her impact on NZ. It is purely self-promotional.
'It has been written in a style that will appeal to readers of the Women's Weekly,' stated one reviewer.
No doubt, the publishers understand that is the only audience likely to pay money for it."
